Fowl friends

We have many wonderful friends in the city who share our passion for showing curious travelers the side of Amsterdam that they love. We've got the eating and drinking bit.  Here are our friends covering the rest - By foot and bike. We ask them to introduce themselves and to reveal their favorite street food spots.

WeBike Amsterdam

by Jasper & Thijs

"Who are you and what do you do?"

"We are Jasper and Thijs and we are doing bike tours in Amsterdam. During our tours we like to show people the more undiscovered parts of the city and introduce them to the real Amsterdam. We're also doing a countryside tour to enjoy the farmlands and Dutch skies just outside the city."

"Why do you do what you do?"

"Amsterdam is a city of bikes and cycling is a strong component of the city's current culture.

We therefore believe that the best way to mingle with the locals and to become an Amsterdammer for a little while is to hop on a bike. If you really want to experience and understand this place you have to see it from a cyclist's perspective."

"What's your favorite street food spot in Amsterdam and what do you order?"

"For the past 15 years we've been going to the same place every now and then to enjoy a delicious sandwich at 't Kaasboertje in the Jordaan neighbourhood. Located at Tweede Tuindwarsstraat 3A, you'll find this cute little place where the chatty owner Hans is more than happy to see you again (Even if he has never seen you before), and to make you a 'little party'. Our favorite sandwich is 'Broodje Hans'. Spicy as hell but truly addictive. A quick visit to Hans is guaranteed 'lekker and gezellig' (Delicious and cosy). Enjoy!"

That Dam Guide

by Mark & his team Lealu, Benjamin, Rob & Rory

"Who are you and what do you do?"

"I'm Mark and I love giving tours of Amsterdam and meeting interesting people every day."

"Why do you do what you do?"

"I started my guiding life working for a big free tour company but I wasn't happy walking around town with 30 to 40 people. I broke away and started my little company to bring high quality tours to small groups of people, group size 10 max, so that we can chat and interact and have a much richer experience."

"What's your favorite street food spot in Amsterdam and what do you order?"

"My favorite street food spot is Tokoman on the Zeedijk. I order their Broodje Pom (a Surinamese sandwich with chicken, orange juice and indigenous Surinamese root plant) met peper en zuur (With piccalilly sauce and pickled vegetables)."

Brews and tales craft beer tour

by rachael & Alexandra

"Who are you and what do you do?"

"We are Rachael and Alexandra. We run craft beer experiences for travellers who are curious about Amsterdam craft beers, local bar snacks, and fascinating stories about our weird and wonderful city. It's like Hungry Birds, but thirstier!"

"Why do you do what you do?"

Rachael: "To be honest, I created Brews and Tales Craft Beer Tour because I was obsessed with Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations", and I wanted to create experiences for people like us - An unpretentious and interactive way for people to enjoy some damn good brews and traditional local bar snacks, trade some stories, and have a genuinely good time. Then Alexandra, who used to be a business consultant for beer titan, Heineken, joined the ride and asked, "Why not focus on local beers?" Amsterdam's beer scene is growing in dynamic ways. We want to let our guests try some stellar beers and give them an opportunity to connect with our city and each other in a small group setting. We're not your typical pub crawl!

"What's your favorite street food spot in Amsterdam and what do you order?"

Alexandra: "I love the fresh hot dogs from Bulls & Dogs at De Foodhallen. It's with coleslaw, pork sausage and some tzatziki sauce. Lekkkkeeerrr(delicious)!"

Rachael: "No matter where I am in the world, I always crave the meatball sandwich with plenty of hot sauce from Tjin's Toko. I also love Broodje Paling (smoked eel sandwich) from any respectable fish stall - a fluffy white bun. And of course, you gotta wash it down with a glass of cold beer."
