Turkish bakeries serving baklavas and piping hot tea… Pakistani music fills the air, blending in with the aroma of freshly-fried samosas.. Nearby, patient patrons wait in line for Indonesian fare… Say hello to Amsterdam East.

Amsterdam East or ‘Oost’ as Amsterdammers know it, is a small, global and trendy village with a friendly community vibe. It’s a neighbourhood with its own unique identity, a lot of history and a promising future. This experience is for you if you want to scratch beyond the surface and explore this lively side of Amsterdam.

With over 150 nationalities living side-by-side, Amsterdam East offers an amazing blend of ethnic, international and Dutch flavours in every form. The historical and vibrant Dappermarkt is where you find street food vendors from every background. Hidden in the side streets of the market are tasty traditional treasures, as well as new trendy bars with botanical jungle decor and a funky menu - the result of an ongoing gentrification. New young entrepreneurs are working alongside the pioneers towards a better Oost. It's this communal spirit that fosters a great future for this unassuming neighbourhood.

So what kind of food can you expect to taste on this Oost food experience? Well, we like to keep it a surprise, but here's a little teaser. Devilishly delicious samosas from a passed-down Pakistani family recipe, among some Javanese-Surinamese, Hindustan-Surinamese, Moroccan street food specialties as well as some of the Dutch food icons of East.

If you're open-minded and hungry for a less traditional food adventure in Amsterdam, then we know you'll love this experience. Especially if you're a seasoned Amsterdam traveller, a returning Hungry Bird in search of more adventures, or simply someone who'd like to go beyond the usual.

Let’s feast in the East together.
